How To Get Rid Of Fruit Flies In Your Facility

Fruit flies are a common problem for commercial facilities in Denver, Boulder and throughout Colorado.  Attracted to rotting, fermenting food often found in commercial kitchens as well as in food processing plants and supermarkets, fruit flies can be difficult to get rid of.  That’s why EnviroPest by Sprague Pest Solutions would like to offer a few tips to help your facility manage fruit fly activity.

As with any infestation of pests, including mice, ants and cockroaches, prevention is always better then remediation.  In regards to fruit flies, the best thing property owners and managers can do to prevent this pest is to:

  • Dispose of fruits, vegetable or other food that has become overripe
  • Store cooked foods promptly after serving
  • Seal foods in air-tight containers
  • Do not keep dirty dishes in the sink overnight
  • Keep drains clear of any small food particles that may have fallen in
  • Clean spills, especially soda and beer, quickly
  • If recycling, rinse out bottles and cans and store in a sealed bag or container
